What is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is a gentle style of yoga that works to open and calm the body through passive stretching. Tension is released from the body by comfortably relaxing into poses supported by props such as bolsters and blocks. 

 

Restorative yoga stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows the heart rate, regulates the blood pressure and relaxes the body. It is believed to boost the immune system and accelerate the body’s natural healing process.  Restorative yoga is considered particularly beneficial for those suffering from 

 

Anxiety

Insomnia

Depression

Poor Circulation

Digestive Problems

Stress Related Conditions

 

Prepare yourself for deep relaxation when you attend a restorative class. At the end of the session, your body feels open and refreshed, your mind feels calm and blissful.

Hi, my name is Jessica Ellen and I am Spiritual Realms Yoga Teacher.

When I first started yoga in 2004 it was at home on my lounge room floor following an old Aerobics Oz Style DVD. The feeling I had after each practise was blissful. My body felt lighter and I was able to move more freely, I felt connected to myself like a weight had been lifted. It took me a few months to build up the courage to go to an actual yoga class as I thought that I was too out of shape or not flexible enough. Back then yoga was not as popular as it is now and it was still considered an exercise and only for slim and fit people. If only I knew then what I know now.

After my first yoga class I realised that yoga is for everyone because everyone is unique and perfection is not the goal, acceptance is the goal. In the class I felt safe and secure, I felt so much love for myself and joy in who I was, a feeling that lingered long afterwards. That was the beginning of my life long yoga journey.

I have devoted myself to continually learning, practising and sharing my knowledge of yoga to help others feel free and have love and joy of themselves.  I have completed 350 hours of yoga teacher training, meditation training and shamanic healing training which has given me a deep understanding of mind/body connection.

I mostly teach restorative yoga which is a more meditative and relaxing style. Restorative yoga targets the connective tissue of the body to provide better lubrication and protection of joints. The poses are gentle and calming and most are practised on the floor using props.
